This Earth Day, Provenance Collection is proudly introducing their new partner: Silverhand Estate, the first carbon-negative vineyard in the UK.
Silverhand Estate, an award-winning English sparkling wine producer renowned for its dedication to sustainability and excellence in winemaking, has recently joined forces with Provenance Collection as its English Sparkling Wine Partner. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship and supporting local producers.
Silverhand Estate: A Hidden Gem in the Kent Countryside
Located in the scenic landscapes of Kent, Silverhand Estate is redefining English sparkling wine. The estate boasts the largest single organic vineyard in the UK, spanning over 900 acres, and is widely recognised for its innovative and environmentally conscious approach to winemaking.
Their unique terroir, rich in chalky flint soils and Kimmeridge clay, mirrors the famed Champagne region in northern France, creating ideal conditions for cultivating classic grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier.
Sustainable and Ethical Winemaking
As a fully operational farm as well as a vineyard, Silverhand Estate integrates sustainable
farming and viticulture techniques, supported by a dedicated conservation team who work year round to maintain and enhance the estate’s unique ecosystem
Silverhand’s organic farming practices prioritise soil health, biodiversity, and sustainability:
Natural Grazing: Sheep, including rare Jacob and Romney breeds, graze between the vines, naturally maintaining vineyard conditions and fertilising the soil.
Regenerative Farming: English Longhorn cattle help improve soil structure and fertility across the estate.
Chemical-Free Cultivation: By avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, the vineyard supports a healthier ecosystem and produces cleaner, more expressive wines.
Carbon-Negative Vineyard Leading the UK
In a landmark achievement, Silverhand Estate became the first carbon-negative vineyard in the UK – accomplished without relying on carbon offsetting. This milestone highlights their leadership in sustainable viticulture and commitment to reducing environmental impact.
Premium English Sparkling Wine Production
At the heart of Silverhand Estate is a passion for crafting exceptional sparkling wines. Benefiting from Kent’s climate and Champagne-like soils, the estate produces elegant, high-quality wines using traditional methods and classic grape varieties.

The Charmat Method
The Charmat method, also known as ‘Cuve Close’ or Tank Method, is widely associated with the production of Prosecco in Italy and Sekt in Germany, but is used for making sparkling wines in many other countries around the world – and increasingly in England. The Charmat method dates back to the late 18th century when it was developed by an Italian, Federico Martinotti, although it was Frenchman Eugene Charmat who refined the process and gave it its name.
